Mission & Purpose

Blackpool BID (Business Improvement District) has a simple mission to improve the visitor experience and to promote Blackpool Town Centre as a safe, clean place to do business.

Blackpool BIDs are a member of the The BID Foundation

Our core aims are:

  • To enhance the safety of Blackpool Town Centre.
  • To develop a more attractive and welcoming street environment.
  • To give members a collective voice and promote the Town Centre.
  • To improve the BID area environment.

Business Improvement District

Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are not for profit partnerships within a defined area, in which the local businesses have voted to invest together to improve their environment.

In October 2005 the first Business Improvement District in Blackpool Town Centre was established and since then local businesses have invested over £4million worth of additional services to improve the trading environment, attract more shoppers and visitors to the Town Centre.

The Blackpool Town Centre BID works to improve the visitor experience and to promote Blackpool Town Centre as a safe, clean place to do business. The BID is a partnership between more than 400 of Blackpool’s Town Centre Businesses and organisations working together.

BID has also provided essential support and services that are above and beyond the levels provided by Blackpool Council and Lancashire Police.

The BID annually supports additional Christmas illumination to enhance the existing decorations in the town centre. We have also provided on-street security and cleaning services year-round along with a growing social media campaign.

The Town Centre BID Management Group work hard to build on the successes of the past ten years to make sure that Blackpool continues to thrive, attract more customers and maintain its national position in the UK visitor economy.

Blackpool

Blackpool continues to retain a unique place in the nation’s imagination, its past and present inextricably linked with the tourist industry.

It is the scale, speed and ambition of Blackpool's historic development – together with the constant adaptation to meet the changing desires of demanding audiences – that has consistently served to elevate Blackpool from being a typical coastal resort. Blackpool is a true British icon, the only urban seaside resort with 150 years of heritage.

Blackpool’s international profile as a centre for entertainment means it continues to be one of Britain’s most visited destinations. There are around 18 million visits annually to enjoy cultural and visitor attractions such as the historic Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens; a lively events programme including the Blackpool Air Show and World Fireworks Championship; theatre and art through the Grand Theatre, Wintergardens and Grundy Art Gallery; enjoy the greatest free light show on earth at the Blackpool Illuminations, and of course the variety of independent shopping and food offer in the town centre.

Leveraging Investment

Long-awaited private sector interest in all areas of the economy has emerged, with major investments in cinema, sport-related leisure, retail, food and beverage, and hotels planned to reach £500m over the next five years.

Notably, Blackpool has enjoyed £46m of private sector investment since 2011 in new rides, attractions and facilities at Blackpool Pleasure Beach from the UK’s first Nickelodeon Land to the UK’s first double launch rollercoaster, ICON; a new £28m conference centre at the Winter Gardens, expanding its capacity by an additional 2,000 delegates to 7,000; and the Blackpool Central leisure quarter development proposes a major new high-quality leisure offer, providing year-round reasons to visit Blackpool and broadening the resort’s overall appeal.
